Bill Borland

"The issues relating to water today, very much parallel the issues relating to climate change. Not because most of the predicted consequences of climate change seem to directly affect water on this planet in one way or another, but also because of the way in which they are treated. Denial."

- Bill Borland, Vice President, Canadian Federal Programs, AMEC Earth Environmental.

Water Workshop - February 24, 2009

The study will take advantage of the Round Table?s unique ability to focus on both environmental and economic factors to the consideration of water both as a part of our natural environment and also as an economic force. This unique focus has made past NRTEE work indispensable in creating balanced and effective policy recommendations, and it is certain to make this work on water equally important.

Among the areas which will be considered in this wide-ranging process are: energy, mining, forestry and agriculture as well as issues of environmental conservation. As the 21st century ends its first decade we are already faced with significant challenges in water supply, availability and distribution; these pressures will only grow more intense with the growing effects of climate change and rising economic demand.
