Measuring Eco-efficiency in Business: Feasibility of a Core Set of Indicators

Measuring environmental performance objectives in a standardized manner will allow useful dialogue and permit easy comparison between divisions, companies and business sectors. The NRTEE, with the cooperation of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, and the active participation of eight companies, has developed a set of indicators which could accomplish this objective. This report focuses on indicators for energy and material intensity, and has many practical lessons and insights of value to those who develop and implement eco-efficiency indicators.
